An assortment of woodcut prints and blocks.
Woodblock printmaking is accomplished by carving the “negative space” out of the surface of a block of wood, rolling ink onto what remains, and pressing the block onto paper. This technique allows many prints to be made from one block.
The Leaf prints are Reduction Prints, which create a limited edition as each layer of color is printed from a single block of wood that is successively carved away, essentially destroying the block.
I included images of some blocks as well, since I find them to be interesting art objects apart from the prints they make.
